Matti Makela The Art Stevedores, I presume? What is male art in a mentally developed sense like? I’ll take an example from the series “Sad pictures”, or the Melancholy series, which is unfinished and which may never be completed due to internal differences among the Art Stevedores. It consists of two images: Wetting Oneself In A Threatening Situation and Getting Beaten Up After Showing Off In The Sausage Kiosk Queue. This is what I mean by male art in a mentally developed context. The Art Stevedores is a humouristic and social but not cynic art group. Between the trio making up the group, the discussion can be about sports or illnesses. Mahonen’s stomach hurts, Suntio has a fever, Metso’s head aches and he also has a fever. But one thing is for sure: The word “androgynous” is never used among the Art Stevedores. I’m actually worried about the Art Stevedores, because lately Mahonen has been giving forth cultured views about the Stevedore’s concept in Kotka. Such analytical talk can well be communicated in Kotka, but out in the big world someone might understand what Mahonen is talking about. And what about when they’ll be known all over, and Kotka is on the world’s cultural map? Still feeling an inner emptiness? |
